modern homelife @ apartment therapy.

This lovely room was featured as one of the top finalists Apartment Therapy chose in the "Kid's Color Contest" of 2008. Such bright & fun colors! The room was inspired by children's books which are full of color and beautiful art. The illustrator's art was used as the inspiration for the room. Neutral walls kept the room light so bright punches of color could be used in the fabrics & furniture. The furniture pieces came from thrift stores, and the duvet cover is made from Target sheets.

a new beginning.

Hello to all. Wow it has been such a long while since i was able to post regularly of my favorite fashion trends, etsy findings, art, and design. I still keep up with my favorite bloggers ofcourse! I can't believe summer is almost over. Where did it go? Moving back to my hometown from college was a big change. My plans and my life shifted to another direction. I had to follow my heart and go with it. So I moved back home. It was good to spend a lot of time with my family. Being away, I sure do appreciate them a lot more than I have in the past. Coming from a small town, it wasn't unusual to always see someone you knew every time you stepped out. Which is good, but awkward at times. You know what i'm talking about - seeing someone you worked with or went to school with, that you really didn't care for but had to make conversation when you ran into them. I always hated that awkwardness & that is one thing I did not miss. It was just different moving away then coming back.

I think it has been one of the best summers of my life. Everything has fallen into place for me, like it never has before.

I worried and fret for the past year about getting in to the University of my choice. If I didn't get in, I would be set back a whole semester which would drastically change my plans. Just two days before my birthday in July, I was accepted! I am hoping and praying to get in the Nursing school in the near future. I truly believe that is the only job for me. I have the desire to help others, I love taking care of people, the human body fascinates me, and there's no doubt I have the heart for it. I believe with my determination and enough hard work, I can do it. Everyone's always asked why I didn't pursue my artisic talents - but I want to keep that a hobby. I LOVE art & design but I don't ever want to be forced to do it. So in other words - I have an insane schedule this Fall. Study, study, study! My stress reliever ofcourse is blogging, writing, music, art & design.

I easily found a fabulous apartment in just one day. I finally joined the 20th century, & got an iPhone! I've only had it a week, and I can't imagine my life without it. It's amazing how far technology has come! Annnd let's see...I bought a new vehicle this week and LOVE it! ...I am all set! Don't ya think? I am packing up my many things and heading West with my precious Bella. I AM working on my "Inspiration Board" which I will post once it's finished! Thanks to Jen at MadebyGirl for her DIY instruction guide! Everything has worked out so far (knock on wood). After the months & months of sleepless nights, worry, & all the stress I finally put it all in God's hands and took a big step back. Once I did everything fell into place. I had been searching for answers, praying for a sign. And it just happend. Thank you Lord!

Keep up the good posting! I spend hours on here every time I catch up on blogs, I guess that's why I avoid logging in! I have some new postings coming soon. Thanks for letting me ramble.

flirty summer skirts.

I'm loving the highwaisted skirt for summer. It's modern, sexy, & fun! I found these lightweight silhouette skirts at U.O. Dress up a casual tank with one of these fabulous fittings all for under $70. This look is so effortless and simple, yet so chic & femine. Dress it up with a bold pair of pumps or a trendy sandal.

Just a few of my favorite picks from U.O. new summer accessories.

the beauty of a woman.

“ The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. ”

q & a! just for fun

Ms. Less is Always More tagged me for some fun "get-to-know-you" questions!

What's your current obsession?
Eating healthy, working out, and finding precious etsy art to collect! ...I'm so very proud that I'm obsessed with getting healthy :)!

What's your favorite part of the day?
Well, I'm definately not a big morning person. I need a couple hours before I'm ready to strike up a good conversation. Unfortunately, I am usually woken up about 6:00am by my yapping little monster-of-a-pomeranian, Bella. But I love dusk. Just before the sun goes down & the sun starts to fade.

What are you wearing today?
Today I had 4 classes. I am in college which means only for special occasions or a planned lunch date do you dress up! I wore MEK jeans, a white v-neck tee, my favorite gold coach bracelet, and black patent Gianni Bini sandals.

What would you like to learn to do?
I've recently taken up an interest in learning to cook! I've always known how watching my mother and grandmothers over all the years, but I've never quite learned how to cook an entire dinner. I LOVE to bake, but being off at college I do not have the time nor desire to pack on any more extra calories!

What's the last thing you bought?
The last purchase I made was... sweet tea! :) Yum! But that's no fun, so the last time I went shopping I bought an adorable dress from Gap. I wore it this weekend with some black patent Jessica Simpson shoes and got so many compliments. It's a simple dress, but with the right jewelery & shoes it is fabulous! Here is the dress that I will be going back very soon to get... PERFECT for summer, right??

What's for dinner tonight?Tonight I came home from my night class completely exhausted. I just popped a Lean Cuisine in the microwave while I watched The City re-run from last night... Maybe tomorrow I will cook something?

What are you listening to right now?
I'm listening to Kelli Pickler's new song "Best Days". It's such a good song for all of us girls who've had a guy mislead you!! I just love Kellie Pickler!

What's your favorite weather?Let's see... If it's Christmas time it HAS to be cold! I can't stand Texas heat during winter time! But I'll have to say Spring-Summer is my favorite.

What's your most challenging goal right now?
After 3 years of college, FINALLY figuring out what I want to do - I now have to face a whole new set of challenges. But I have a positive attitude and a lot of support. I look forward to applying to nursing school this fall.

What do you think about the person that tagged you?
I enjoy following Ms. Less is Always More. She has a creative & very inspirational blog! Thank you for tagging me!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?Wow, I've never really thought about that. Just ONE place?? I would have to say somewhere off the coast of Italy.

Favorite vacation spot? The beach ofcourse! So far my favorite beach is Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Absolutely beautiful. We stayed at the RIU PALACE & I highly recommend it to anyone.
What would you like to have in your hands right now?
My grandfather's hand. Last weekend he went on to heavan. It was very unexpected. He had been in the hospital but was supposed to be released the very next day. I'm glad my dad was holding him in his arms when he passed. I saw him every day I was home and he would take my hand and never let go until I left...

What would you like to get rid of?Stress. I stress over everything. I carry it around with me & let it affect my every day life. I am young, I'm in college! This is the best time of my life! Why do I worry and stress so much?

Which language do you want to learn?
I'd like to be fluent in Spanish. I go travel to Mexico every summer on a medical mission trip with a team of Dentists and healthcare professionals. I know a few words, but not much.

What's your favorite thing about the city you live in?
The people. I live in a college town and everyone is pretty much the same. We all like Texas country music, everyone is courteous, just good, down-home real people. The entire town is full of team spirit... I love it.

What's your favorite piece of clothing in your closet?
I have a really fabulous byFrancine dress that I bought from a boutique in my hometown. It's a black knee-length dress, with hand-made crochet around the bottom and very exquisite detail on it.

What's your dream job?
I want to become a Registered Nurse. If you know me - you know there is nothing that I love more than taking care of someone. I love the healthcare profession, and I love to help someone. I have a passion to help others. I'm comforting, and understanding. I hope to be a traveling RN - work all over the U.S. and I desperately want to travel to Africa and other countries with a team of medical workers.

If you had a $150 to spend today, what would you buy?I'd like a pedicure, manicure & I want to try a airbrush tan! I've never done a spray tan, but it's much more healthy than using a tanning bed.

Fashion pet peeve?Too much jewelry! I guess some girls haven't heard the rule that when you look in the mirror you're supposed to take off atleast one piece of jewelry. Chunky bracelets, a bold neclklace & big earrings are NOT the way to go... Also I can't stand it when a beautiful girl wears dark eyemakeup and dark lipstick. If you wear darker eyemakeup - do a glossy, nude lip. Or natural eyes with a darker shade of lipgloss.

Do you admire anyone's style?
Rachel Bilson. It's an effortless, hippee, streetstyle. She has such a vintage sense of style, I just love it!

What is your style?I would say classy with trend. I always try to have a put-together look. (unless I'm headed to early morning class) I like simple, but trendy. My favorite outfit to wear is a simple, but striking dress with a pair of bold heels.

Who's fashion show would you like tickets to?Don't laugh, but I would like to go to the Victoria's Secret fashion show! The ensembles the models wear are incredible and so much fun!

Whose closet would you like to raid?Marykate Olsen! She is a fashion icon, and I would give anything to even take a peek in her closet!

Now tag 3 people that you would like to get to know more!

summer inspirations.

Dressing for the variety of summer activities, from air-conditioned work meetings to poolside cocktail parties to backyard barbecues, requires a fair amount of creativity and strategy.
Some don't want any fuss in the hot weather. Clean lines work best in the heat: slip dresses, oversized tees worn as dresses and belted to give shape, and slip on a pair of flats.
For those who want a little more flashy look gofor florals and bright colors. Dresses, tunics, caftans - that are throw-on-the-go chic.
You can always wear very simple silhouettes and put on interesting flats to punch up an outfit.

A printed frock, a basic shift, cardigans galore, an easy skin tote, a flat sandal, a cork wedge, and oversize sunglasses will keep you in style this summer— because every fabulous woman needs the proper ensemble for whiling away her summer afternoons.

eat this, not that!

So I haven't posted in a long while & I have had other things going on in my life other than what I normally enjoy writing about. I am still trying to keep up with my lovely followers but please forgive me for not posting as often! Don't forget about me!

I wanted to share about a book that could drastically change what you choose at your favorite resteraunt, buy at the grocery store, & grab as a snack ...I'm sure many of you already heard of the incredible book "Eat This! Not That!" I bought it several months ago and had intentions of taking it to the grocery store with me to help me pick out only the healthiest items. I joined a fitness center about a month and a half ago & have really enjoyed living a healthy lifestyle. I feel better, I feel stronger, and I definately feel more confident! I try to go to the gym every day, if not, every other day. It's getting close to the end of the school semester so the exams, and term papers are starting to overflow so I'm not getting to go as often.

I subscribed to the Women's Health Magazine which I strongly advise all women to get! There are always several light weightlifting excercises, and many good reciepes too! Some great articles for all women to read. On their website they have "Eat This, Not That!" lists of many resteraunts, grocery items, drinks, etc. Instead of carrying around the book with me looking like a crazy person, I've just printed out some of my favorite lists. Share this site with your friends and family. Who knows, you may be thinking you are buying healthy foods for you and your family when really some of those items are most likely on the Worst lists!

buy the book.

be back soon.

I miss posting! I have been so busy lately with a million different things I haven't had any time to post or even check in on my favorite blogs! Between classes, working out EVERY day to get that bikini body I want, spending time with close friends, and even a few dates here and there I have missed browsing for hours on here...

I have so many upcoming art projects I want to start working on. I can't wait to get them going! Etsy has inspired me to pick back up my artistic talents!

In an earlier post I told you about joining a new fitness center. Well I've been going every single day for about 3 weeks now and I still absolutely love it! I'm finally living a healthy lifestlye! Ever since I joined I eat good foods, cut way down on the carbs, and eliminated all caffienated drinks. I've lost about 6 lbs so far. Doesn't seem like much, but I feel great knowing I'm making progress and that I'm getting in much better shape! My best girlfriend and I are flying out to Florida next week for Spring Break to stay with her sister. I am so excited, I cannot wait!
I've been on a couple of casual dates with two different guys I've recently met. They are both completely different in so many ways. One is from Wisconsin. I've never known or dated someone from the North. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference but his northern accent! :) Mr. Wisconsin is nothing I've been looking for - however I am really starting to like him. The other guy is exactly my type - just what I'm looking for but for some reason isn't catching my interest as much. I've been searching and praying for months for just the right guy to come along, and I always say that I'll never date someone unless I can see myself marrying him - because you never know who you'll fall in love with! ...Although I've only spent a little time with each one I need to choose before it gets comlplicated. I'm thinking by the 3rd date with each I should know?? Advice please?

Is anyone else as excited as I am about TWILGHT coming out on the 21st??? Wow, excited does not even explain my emotions!! I just finished the 3rd book but I don't think I'll start the 4th for a long time...I just don't want to know the ending of the Twilight story!! I DON'T want there to be an ending!

Hope everyone is fabulous and good things are happening in your life! I hope to return to regular posting very soon!

xoxo

vintage frames.

I have always enjoyed interior decorating. Last year I was able to help my parents completely restore and decorate an old farm cottage built in the early 1900's that was located on the back of our land. We saw it as a fun project, so why not? The house was a complete disaster when we started - but a year later it is now a cozy, shabby chic guest home we use for friends and family. We filled most of the house with antique furniture that we repainted and restored. One thing I wish I would have started collecting along the way is old vintage frames. I love them! I am keeping my eye out. Does anyone know where you can buy old frames like these at a reasonable price?

There are so many different ways to use them. 1. Display fabric 2. Install a mirror in the frame 3. Display a piece of artwork 4. Use it to hang necklaces 5. Make the frame a bulletin board 6. Paint the edges a bright color 7. Leave the frame empty - let it display it's beauty.

swim suit season - just around the corner.

So today was the start of a new lifestyle for me. I've been wanting to join this new fitness center that just opened in town. It's been several years since the last time I had a health club membership. The last time I joined one I didn't hardly use it. The place was more like a social hang out. You always saw someone you knew, and always over crowded. I usually went with a girlfriend and we would end up talking the whole time. I really wasn't serious about getting in shape.

When I work out I honestly don't want to see anyyyone while I'm all sweaty and flustered, is it just me? I just want to work out on my own and at my pace. So I signed up today and worked out late tonight. I love that it's open 24 hours so until I get in decent shape and comfortable at what I'm doing I'll be heading up there when the place is basically empty, haha... Being honest I haven't excercised on a regular basis in over a year. I do want to lose weight but mostly I'd like to get healthy and get in shape!

Bikini season is just around the corner - I wish I would've started this a long time ago, but hey better late than never, right? I refuse to start trying on swim suits until I feel more confident. My plan is to work out atleast every other night when possible. I'm very determined to do this!
Any work out tips or advice will be gladly appreciated! I know a lot of you are probably big health nuts and work out religiously. Most of my friends are blessed with an incredible metabolism and never have to work out a day in their life - so they are no help to me... What is that perfect swim suit that you've got your eye on?

colorful throw pillows.

Anthroplogie home accents are my weakness! I love all the bright colors and crazy designs. They can be used in any home to add color to a room. I have 2 of the brown ones except in orange on my bed along with several others. Unless you are looking to spend about $130 for just one pillow shop around at etsy and you're sure to find what you're looking for! What is one of your favorite etsy shops?
